JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – South Africa-focused diamond producer Petra Diamonds has recovered a 25.5 ct blue diamond from its Cullinan diamond mine.

The mine, labelled as one of the most important sources of blue diamonds in the world, had produced several of the rare and highly coveted stones, and its latest blue diamond output was considered to be a “high-quality gem diamond of top colour”, the company said in a statement on Wednesday.

Previous discoveries included a 39.19 ct special blue diamond, a 26.6 ct rough stone, which yielded a fancy vivid blue, and an internally flawless 7 ct polished stone.
