PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Dual-listed gold miner Perseus Mining has restarted processing operations at its Edikan gold mine, in Ghana, seven days after a fire erupted at the plant.

The fire started during scheduled maintenance and was brought under control within an hour. There were no injuries.

Perseus MD Jeff Quartermaine said on Thursday that following a thorough investigation into the cause of the fire, and the company’s response, work started on repairing the fire damage.

“The effort put in by our on-site team to assess and carry out the repair work was impressive and the fact that we were able to resume operations, as forecast, within seven days is a real credit to all of those involved,” he said.

Perseus is yet to release how the lost time would affect production at the Edikan mine, which produced 48 400 oz of gold during the three months to December.
