Patriot Coal reports fatality

TORONTO (miningweekly.com) – Bankrupt coal producer and marketer Patriot Coal on Thursday said 63-year old Asa Fitzpatrick, a employee of Newtown Energy, was fatally injured when a piece of rock fell from the mine roof on Wednesday afternoon at Kanawha Eagle Mining's Peerless mine, located in Comfort, West Virginia.

"We express our deepest sympathies to Asa's family, friends and co-workers. We are fully cooperating with state and federal mine regulatory officials as we investigate this incident," Patriot executive VP for operations Michael Day said.
