JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Australia-listed Pacific American Coal is advancing plans for its Elko coking coal project, in Canada, announcing on Tuesday that it had engaged consulting engineering group Hatch to complete a concept level mine infrastructure and coal processing capital expenditure (capex) study.

The conceptual capex study is expected to build on the three-dimensional mine site modelling that Hatch completed earlier this year. The outcome of the study is expected in the next two months.

Meanwhile, Pacific American reported that the recent coal price rebound had made the Elko project a “very attractive investment”. Coal prices have rebounded from $73/t in November to $130/t recently.

The Elko project is located in the East Kootenay coal basin of British Columbia.
