JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Operations have resumed at JSE- and NYSE-listed Sibanye’s Cooke operations, in Gauteng, after the illegal industrial action at the mine was called off late on Tuesday.

Operations were halted after four employees were injured, two of them critically, on Tuesday, in an alleged dispute between members of the National Union of Mineworkers and the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union during the undertaking of an agreed union member verification process.

Sibanye on Tuesday said the two seriously injured employees were still in a critical, but stable condition.

“Management will take appropriate disciplinary action once the investigation into the attacks and the illegal industrial action has been concluded,” it added.
