PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Lithium developer Altura Mining has awarded project house NRW Holdings a A$110-million contract for the mine development, drill and blast, and mining services at the new Pilgangoora lithium project, in Western Australia.

The scope of the work includes the construction of mining infrastructure, development of mine haul roads, load and haul production mining of ore and overburden.

NRW said on Tuesday that the company will use existing mining assets for the project, which will start mobilising in March. Up to 60 personnel will be employed on site.

The A$139.7-million Pilgangoora project is expected to have a yearly ore feed rate of 1.54-million tonnes to deliver 219 000 t/y of spodumene concentrate containing 6% lithium, with an estimated life-of-mine cash cost of A$316/t of spodumene concentrate.

The contract is subject to Altura securing funding for the project development.
