PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Project house NRW Holdings has been awarded a A$140-million contract from mining major Rio Tinto at the Nammuldi iron-ore mine, in Western Australia.

The scope of the contract included the construction of mine haul roads, ore stockpiles, waste dumps and other mine infrastructure, as well as production mining, the haulage of ore from the mine area to the existing Nammuldi plant site, and the supply, installation and operation of two five-million-tonne-a-year crushing plants.

The work undertaken by NRW was expected to increase production at Nammuldi and formed part of Rio’s plans to raise output to 360-million tonnes a year.

The contract would run for 24 months and would employ some 135 personnel at peak.

Mobilisation and preliminary site work were expected to start in August.
