8th March 2013 By: Sheila Barradas - Creamer Media Research Coordinator & Senior Deputy Editor

Name and Location
Nowa Nowa iron project, Victoria, Australia.

Client
Eastern Iron.

Project Description
A scoping study completed on the Nowa Nowa project envisages ore being mined at an average of one-million tons a year from an openpit at the Five Mile deposit by a contract mining operator.

The run-of-mine ore will then be beneficiated on site by crushing to <1.6 mm and wet low-intensity magnetic separation to produce an average of 800 000 t/y of fines product, grading +61% iron. Iron-ore product will be loaded onto standard B-double road haulage trucks at the mine site and trucked to a port on the south side of Two Fold bay, south of Eden, for loading onto bulk-capable vessels for export.

Value
$37-million.

Duration
A timeframe for the project has not been confirmed.

Latest Developments
Eastern Iron intends to undertake further resource drilling at Five Mile, which will be designed to investigate extensions to the resource, recovering ore samples for further metallurgical optimisation studies and test for ore variability. Once the metallurgical studies are complete, Eastern Iron will engage an engineering group to conduct a feasibility study, including final capital and operating cost estimates.
