PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Gold miner Newcrest Mining has restarted production at Cadia East’s Panel Cave 1 (PC1), in New South Wales, with production rates at the mine expected to be fully restored by the end of March next year.

The ASX-listed miner on Wednesday said that the remediation and upgrade work required to restart the use of the PC1 crusher chamber had been completed, with extraction of ore restarting from two extraction drives.

The company submitted final ground support plans for the PC1 crusher changer and extraction level to the regulator, and these have been accepted. As a result, the prohibition notice has been amended to allow operations to restart as areas are upgraded in accordance with the submitted plans.

Operations at the Cadia East mine were halted in April following a seismic event. By July, production restarted at the Panel Cave 2.

Newcrest told shareholders that remediation and upgrade work were continuing on other areas in the PC1 extraction level, which would be completed by the end of December.
