Newcrest rescues trapped miner in Indonesia

JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – The miner trapped about 300 m underground at the Gosowong mine, in Indonesia, has been rescued, Australian gold miner Newcrest Mining reported on Tuesday.

Newcrest said that Pak Mursalim Sahman was rescued on Tuesday morning and that he was transported to the Gosowong medical centre for a health check-up.

Mining and processing operations remained suspended at the mine, where Sahman was trapped eight days ago after a cave-in.

On Sunday, rescuers broke through to the chamber in which Sahman was trapped, after boring a 70-cm-diameter hole about 38 m deep.
