Newcrest mine halted after fatality

PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Gold miner Newcrest Mining has temporarily halted operations at the Hidden Valley mine, in Papua New Guinea, following the death of an employee on Saturday.

An investigation into the incident was under way and Newcrest was working with the management of the Hidden Valley mine to understand the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Hidden Valley is jointly owned by Newcrest and South African gold miner Harmony Gold.

In 2014, the project delivered 211 690 oz of gold and 1.9-million ounces of silver.
