New protective pants reduce leg injuries

INCREASING SAFETY The Husqvarna chainsaw pants aim to prevent and reduce the number of leg injuries resulting from chainsaw-related accidents in the forestry industry

In light of studies showing that many chainsaw-related accidents often involve injury to the legs, global proprietor and innovators of professional grade outdoor power products Husqvarna introduces a new design for protective pants in its line of personal protective equipment.

The new line of protective chainsaw pants is manufactured in South Africa, representing “dedication to craftsmanship, innovation and safety”, while showing Husqvarna’s commitment to supporting local industry, with the company purposely choosing to use materials produced by local manufacturers.

Husqvarna South Africa MD Pieter Smuts says that the chainsaw pants were a “passion project” for him, adding that, “South Africans are talented, resourceful and innovative and our new chainsaw pants epitomise our faith in the synergy between innovation and local ingenuity”.

The pants are designed to provide comfort, safety and protection. They are certified class 1-20 M/S and are able to withstand chainsaw speeds of up to 20 m/s.

Meeting international standard ISO 11393-2, the Husqvarna chainsaw pants can safeguard both homeowners and professionals in forestry, arboriculture, farming, and many sectors within green space management.

The design of the pants also incorporates flame-retardant and acid-repellent materials, providing comprehensive protection against chainsaw-related hazards and environmental risks.

The water-resistant properties of the pants enhance their versatility, making them “indispensable” for professionals working in demanding conditions.

Seasoned tree professional Charles Henderson states that, in his line of work, safety is “paramount”, explaining that these pants strike the perfect balance between protection and comfort, empowering him to work with confidence.

“This unveiling is not just another product release, it is a commitment – to innovation, to safeguarding, and to the journey of those who rely on chainsaws to shape the world around them,” Smuts concludes.
