Mobile crushing and screening equipment supplier Kleemann, part of international specialist construction equipment manufacturer Wirtgen, has launched the Mobiscreen MS 703 EVO, which is capable of processing 350 t/h, in South Africa.

Speaking at the launch last month, at the Willows Quarry, in Pretoria, Wirtgen MD Heinrich Schulenburg explained that the MS 703 EVO triple-deck screen is capable of separating four material sizes. The MS 703 EVO separates the aggregates through a screening and shaker system, which transports the four sizes of material on a conveyor system.

He explains that the MS 703 EVO was developed at the Kleemann headquarters in Germany, with production taking place at Wirtgen India, under Wirtgen Germany’s quality control systems.

“From the launch, and several customers who have viewed the models at our Pomona premises, in Johannesburg, the response has been extremely positive, with interest especially generated by the low fuel consumption of the machines, as well as the industry-first safety features,” Schulenberg says.

The 33 t MS 703 EVO has three screening decks and is mounted on tracks for easy manoeuvrability on site, he says, pointing out that the tracks enable the machine to move in rough terrain without getting stuck. The MS 703 EVO is suited for coal mines, rock quarries and other natural ore processing mines.

“We have chosen the Willows rock quarry, in Lynnwood, Pretoria, owned by manufacturer and supplier of aggregate Raumix, as the first demonstration site because it produces natural rocks of different sizes,” says Schulenburg.

The maximum feed size that the MS 703 EVO can handle is 150 mm feed rocks that can be fed into the feed hopper by a front-end loader or excavator, or directly from a crusher conveyor belt. He points out that the operator safety of the MS 703 EVO has been thoroughly researched, with the detachable, remote control system allowing the machine to be operated and unfolded from a safe distance.

Only two people are needed to operate the MS 703 EVO, with the driver of the wheel loader or excavator loading the machine having a clear view of the machine operator’s position. “The MS 703 EVO has three points where the remote control system can be mounted while in operation, allowing the operator to travel around the machine as needed,” Schulenburg explains.

To power the screening process, the MS 703 EVO has a hydraulic drive system that offers a lower fuel consumption than previous models, while giving the required amount of power. The diesel hydraulic engine used in the machine can adhere to Tier 3 or Tier 4 exhaust emissions, he says.

“The MS 703 EVO can be set up within a few hours to start the screening process and combines with other Kleemann products like the Mobicone mobile cone crushers and the Mobicat mobile jaw crushers; a processing plant can effectively be controlled by two or three people,” Schulenburg highlights.

The MS 703 EVO will be available for order throughout South Africa, Mozambique, Lesotho, Zimbabwe, Swaziland, Namibia, Malawi and Botswana. He adds that Wirtgen will market the machines via media channels, more demonstrations on site and at its head office in Kempton Park, in Gauteng, as well distributing information to all existing and new potential clients.

New Ownership
At the start of last month, the Wirtgen Group of companies, which include Kleemann, road paving equipment provider Vogele, manufacturer and marketer of road rollers Hamm and asphalt plant machine industry company Benninghoven, was acquired by vehicle manufacturer John Deere for €4.6-billion.

Deere & Company chairperson and CEO Samuel Allen said in a media statement that the acquisition of Wirtgen aligns with the company’s long-term strategy to expand John Deere's global growth businesses of agriculture and construction.

“Wirtgen's good reputation, strong customer relationships and demonstrated financial performance are attractive as we expand the reach of John Deere construction equipment to more customers, markets and geographies.”
