GOLD RAMP-UP

Gold Fields’ only South African asset, the South Deep mine, on the Far West Rand, in Gauteng, is steadily ramping up gold production, with a 2017 target of 315 000 oz, having increased from 290 000 oz in 2016. Steady-state production is projected to be reached in 2022, with a production target of 497 000 oz, which will stem primarily from a new mining area called North of Wrench. Going past 2022, the South of Wrench mining area will gradually form the basis of all new mining, with the area producing all South Deep output from 2052 onwards. South Deep, South Africa’s only fully mechanised gold mine, is likely to be this country’s longest-life gold operation.
