JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Stoping and development activities at gold miner AngloGold Ashanti’s Mponeng mine, near Carletonville, have been suspended following the death of an employee.

The deceased, a scraper winch operator, had been fatally injured in a fall-of-ground incident on Tuesday.

“The Department of Mineral Resources has been notified and an in loco inspection was conducted,” AngloGold Ashanti said.

The company expressed its sincere condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the deceased, adding that management was working with the employee’s family to assist them through this difficult time.
