JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Multicommodity mining and development company Mwana Africa on Wednesday said its CEO Kalaa Mpinga had stepped down, effective immediately.

The terms of Mpinga's departure still had to be agreed on.

The Pan-African miner said it had also appointed former nonexecutive director Yat Hoi Ning as executive chairperson, while Dr Scott Morrison, who was appointed as a nonexecutive director earlier this week, became senior independent nonexecutive director, with immediate effect.

The nominations committee, which comprised Hoi Ning, Mark Wellesley-Wood and Morrison, would now initiate an executive search to find a suitable successor to fill the position of CEO.

“[Mpinga] has been a great asset in the creation of Mwana and throughout its development to date. We wish him all the best in the future.

"With these recent changes to the board having now taken place, it marks a clear new beginning for Mwana and its shareholders and we are confident that we have all the necessary qualities and experience to deliver success in the future,” Hoi Ning said.
