Junior explorer inks deal for Tanzania graphite project prefeasibility study

KEY PRIORITY Mozambi Resources will focus on the production of high-quality flake concentrates, targeting the lithium-ion battery market

Junior exploration company Mozambi Resources has signed an agreement with Australian specialist project management company BatteryLimits to deliver a prefeasibility study (PFS) on its wholly owned Namangala graphite project, in Tanzania.

The Namangale project is one of the largest graphite deposits in Tanzania, containing a Joint Ore Reserves Committee- (Jorc-) com- pliant inferred resource of 179-million tonnes at 5.1% total graphitic content.

The project is well located in south-eastern Tanzania and is 140 km from a deep-water port and 10 km from sealed roads. Mineralisation at the three drilled depo- sits occurs from surface and remains open in all directions.

Mozambi announced the Jorc-compliant resource, calculated from 82 reverse circula- tion holes and nine diamond holes with a maximum depth of 100 m and with the mineralisation starting at or near surface in January.

Starting Work
BatteryLimits will start work immediately on Stage 1 of a PFS that would inform the more detailed Stage 2, according to Mozambi.

“The Stage 1 work will identify and quantify the dynamics of the project, including the favourable location in close proximity to existing infrastructure and the benefits of [the company’s] exceptional graphite minera- logy,” the company stated.

The PFS is due for completion in the fourth quarter of this year.

Metallurgical work has started under guidance from BatteryLimits. The company’s other projects are in Australia, Tanzania, Saudi Arabia and Mexico.

Mozambi Resources states that the production of high-quality flake concen- trates, targeting the lithium-ion battery market, is a key priority. This will be managed through the use of existing diamond core samples to the completion of the PFS.

The company notes that, after the completion of the recent capital raising, it is now fully funded to complete the PFS.
