PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Engineering firm Monadelphous Group has been awarded a A$160-million contract by Talison Lithium at the Greenbushes site, in Western Australia, for the construction of the chemical grade plant 3 (CGP3).

Talison Lithium is a joint venture between ASX-listed IGO, Tianqi Lithium and US major Albemarle Corporation. The Greenbushes lithium mine has the capacity to deliver 1.2-million tonnes a year of spodumene concentrate, and near-term expansions could add two additional chemical grade plants with a production capacity of 520 000 t/y each as well as a tailings retreatment plant with a production capacity of 280 000 t/y of chemical grade concentrate.

Monadelphous' multidisciplinary contract to install a new crushing and screening facility and lithium concentrate processing plant, includes associated tank and piping fabrication works and electrical supply.

Monadelphous MD Zoran Bebic said the award of the contract followed a successful period of early contractor involvement.

“We are delighted to have secured this key opportunity which further extends our participation in the development of Talison Lithium’s Greenbushes operations.”

Work will commence on site later this year and is expected to be completed in the first half of 2025.
