Mining Entrepreneur, Daphne Mashile Nkosi Bags Prestigious Award

Company Announcement - Daphne Mashile-Nkosi, a South African award-winning mining entrepreneur, has been recognised with the 2015 Africa Female Business Leader of the Year Award. Mashile-Nkosi, Executive chairperson of Kalagadi Manganese, received the award and a certificate of recognition from The African Leadership Magazine and Georgia Legislative Black Caucus at a glittering ceremony in London for her business acumen and ability to execute successful business strategies.

Mashile Nkosi was voted to receive the award by the majority of the magazine’s 480,000 readers and 180,000 Facebook fans and other platforms.“This award recognises exceptional leadership and managerial skill in a female business leader who in spite of stiff competition in a male dominated world, has shown resilience, courage and sagacity in building a worthy brand,”  said the award’s citation .Mashile-Nkosi said: “I am humbled by the recognition and grateful for the opportunity to serve my country and my continent in business,” said Mashile-Nkosi.The African Leadership Magazine is a pan-African flagship publication circulated to over 180,000 targeted international investors, business executives, government policy makers and multilateral agencies in Africa, Europe and the U.S.

The magazine said Mashile Nkosi was an example of “the array of talent we have across the continent. The private sector is undoubtedly taking the lead in helping transform the continent, in terms of what it can do and in terms of creating opportunities and solutions out of problems.” In the same ceremony, Mashile-Nkosi also received a Special Commendation Award from the US Georgia Legislative Black Caucus, an American legislative body and partners of the magazine on the awards for helping transform the African business landscape. “This third party endorsement from an Institution of such repute is regarded as one of the highest seal of confidence, which is beneficial for corporate image,” the magazine said.

Amongst many of her awards, Mashile-Nkosi is the recipient of the 2014 Africa CEO of the Year and the 2013 International Star for Leadership in Quality Award; the 2013 IPM CEO of the Year. As executive chairperson of Kalagadi Manganese, a trustee and deputy chairperson of the Women’s Development Bank Trust, a chairperson of Women’s Development Bank Investments Holdings (Proprietary) Limited, she is an activist on gender issues and encourages business to improve the quality of life of poor communities and the nurturing of women entrepreneurs and business leaders.

She represents shareholder interests as a director of various companies, including, Interfile, Kalahari Resources, Temoso Holdings, and Metmar Trading (listed on the JSE), chairperson of Bakhazi-Banalima (Proprietary) Limited and trustee of the FirstRand Empowerment Trust and Board member of the South African National Roads Agency.
