PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Nickel miner Mincor on Wednesday told shareholders that it expected to exceed its production forecast for the full year, after another strong quarter of production.

During the three months to March, Mincor produced 2 203 t of nickel-in-ore, which was on par with the 2 735 t produced in the previous quarter.

Production at the Kambalda operation, in Western Australia, was within forecast expectations, with the final and wholly unbudgeted months of production from the Otter Juan and McMahon operations making up for reduced production from Mariners.

Both mines were placed on care and maintenance at the end of the quarter, despite initially being scheduled for close in November of last year.

The Mariners mine was adversely affected by flooding during the quarter, which occurred as a delayed result of the heavy rains experienced in late January.

Meanwhile, production at the Mittel mine remained steady, Mincor said.

With the additional production from Otter Juan and McMahon, Mincor was now expecting that the full-year production guidance of between 8 500 t and 9 000 t of nickel in concentrate would be exceeded.
