Metso to deliver €20m minerals processing equipment package to Kansanshi

Metso Concorde Cell

Copper miner First Quantum Minerals has placed an order with original-equipment manufacturer Metso for the delivery of additional minerals processing equipment to its Kansanshi copper mine, in Zambia, for the S3 expansion project.

The Kansanshi mine is one of the largest copper mines in the world. The expansion includes a standalone 25-million-tonne-a-year processing plant that will increase the operation’s copper production substantially.

The value of the order is more than €20-million and it has been booked under Metso’s minerals segment second-quarter orders received.

Metso’s scope of delivery includes apron feeders, Nordberg MP800 cone crushers, TankCell e630 and TankCell e300 mechanical flotation cells, high-intensity Concorde Cell units, ColumnCell units, HRT thickeners and a clarifyer.

Most of the separation equipment is part of Metso’s Planet Positive offering, which helps its customers reduce emissions and achieve other sustainability priorities.

Last year, Metso was awarded an order for two Premier grinding mills with a total installed power of 50 MW, including Metso Megaliner and metallic mill linings.

“Kansanshi’s flotation flowsheet combines the well-proven, energy efficient TankCell flotation cells with the new Concorde Cell, unlocking the potential for further improved flotation performance.

“Concorde Cell high-intensity, forced-air pneumatic flotation cells allow operations to enhance fine and ultrafine particle selectivity,” Metso flotation VP Antti Rinne said in a July 4 media release.
