Entering the third edition of these awards - the only mining focused innovation awards aimed specifically at local OEMs, MEMSA is very proud of the track record of excellent innovations showcased in previous years and looks forward to this year’s entries.
The 2024 Awards will again be announced at the MEMSA Mind Shift Conference on Innovation, Digital Tech and Skills in the SA Mining Supply Chain in May, this year with the theme 'Smart Solutions for People and Planet'.
What has stayed the same?
As before, we have categories by equipment type, into which companies may enter up to two items:
• Innovation in Hard Rock Mining (The Navin Singh Award)
• Innovation in Soft Rock Mining
• Innovation in Surface Mining
• Innovation in Mineral Processing, and
• Digital Solutions for Mining.
Items entered may include one or more innovative aspect.
What is new?
This year we have expanded the thematic awards, including some exciting new categories, in line with the Conference themes:
• Innovation for an Energy Transition: recognising innovations which reduce the use of carbon fuels or which support the transition to Green Energy
• Innovation towards Zero Harm: for innovations in support of mining which is safer and reduces health impacts of mining
• Innovation by an SMME: recognising the fact that our SMEs are highly innovative
And two completely new categories highlighting the growing use of data, and importance of collaboration in a complex tech landscape and global industry:
• Innovative use of Data
• Collaboration for Innovation
We hope these categories will provide our members and the wider industry with exciting opportunities to showcase their achievements, and inspiration to keep pushing the boundaries.
