Meliadine gold mine combined heat and power plant project, Canada

Name of the Project
Meliadine gold mine combined heat and power (CHP) plant project.

Location
The power plant will provide baseload power for the Meliadine gold mine, located in the Nunavut Territory, in the north of Canada.

Client
Agnico Eagle Mines.

Project Description
The Meliadine mine is off-grid, so the mine needs to secure its own heat and power supply at all times.

The project entails the construction of a 28 MW CHP plant for the gold mine. Besides supplying electricity for the equipment and operations, the plant will also capture heat from the engines and engine exhaust and deliver that heat to the underground mine and buildings.

Initially, the power plant will run on light-fuel oil (LFO), but natural gas may be available in the future.
