TORONTO (miningweekly.com) – TSX-V-listed Metanor Resources on Monday reported that a mechanic (50) had died at the Bachelor gold mine, located in Desmaraisville, 250 km north-east of Val d'Or.
The company said the mechanic was busy assembling a small haulage truck in a maintenance shop early on Sunday morning when he sustained severe injuries.
Mine rescue and first responders attended the scene immediately to evacuate the worker.
The Quebec provincial police and the safety authorities were proceeding with an investigation of the accident and Metanor was cooperating with the ongoing investigation, as well as providing support to the family and employees at the mine site.
"We are deeply saddened by this event and our sincere condolences go out to the family, colleagues and friends of the deceased. A safe workplace is a fundamental principle for Metanor and this tragedy has strengthened our commitment in this pursuit,” CEO and president Ghislain Morin said.
Metanor produced 10 277 oz of gold during the quarter ended June 30, through processing 58 499 t of ore at a feed grade of 5.66 g/t, with a 96.5% recovery rate. This was lower than the 13 083 oz of gold the company produced in the same quarter in 2014.
For the fiscal year ended June 30, Metanor produced 40 067 oz, which was also down from the 48 847 oz reported for the full-year 2014.
