Lucara to host second exceptional stone tender as Karowe continues to deliver

JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Lucara Diamond Corp’s second exceptional stone tender of 2015 will feature up to 12 diamonds, including the recently recovered 336 ct Type IIa diamond and an 8 ct fancy pink diamond.

The second tender materialised as the company’s 100%-owned Karowe mine, in Botswana, continued to deliver as expected, Lucara president and CEO William Lamb said on Tuesday.

“The increase in bottom cutoff value to $1-million for qualifying diamonds for the exceptional stone tenders has resulted in less stones being available for these tenders but has increased the value for Lucara by allowing us to offer higher quality at our regular tenders,” he noted.

Further, the recovery of coloured stones from the south lobe at Karowe was “very encouraging” as no coloured stones had previously been identified from this lobe.

London, UK-based corporate advisory firm SP Angel noted on Tuesday that the upcoming diamond tenders would be watched closely to see what the spill-over effect was on consumer demand, as a result of the recent heightened concerns about a potentially slowing Chinese economy.

Viewing would take place in Gaborone from November 2 to 11, with the tender closing at 16:00 CAT.
