JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Lucara Diamond sold 1 674 ct valued at $68.71-million in its first exceptional stone tender of the year.

The special tender of diamonds from its Karowe mine, in Botswana, was completed on Thursday and consisted of 14 single-stone lots.

Twelve diamonds sold for more than $1-million each, including five stones, which sold for in excess of $4-million each.

Lot 701, a 341.9 ct Type IIa diamond discovered in April, sold for $20.55-million, while Lot 702, a 269.7 ct diamond, sold for $16.54-million.

"This is another amazing result, demonstrating not just the sustainable quality of the diamonds being produced but also the robustness of the exceptional stone market. The sales values achieved for the two large stones demonstrates the quality of diamonds which the south lobe is producing,” Lucara president and CEO William Lamb commented.
