PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Diamond miner Lucapa Diamond Company has sold its ninth parcel of alluvial diamonds from the Lulo project, in Angola.

The company reported on Monday that the parcel of 178 ct generated gross revenues of A$420 000, with the diamonds selling at an average price of A$2 360/ct.

The latest sale included the 66.4 ct Lulo diamond.

The next sale was scheduled for February.

Lucapa meanwhile reported the recovery of a 133.4 ct diamond from initial processing of the new gravel from Mining Block 6, at the Lulo project. This was the largest stone recovered at Lulo to date.

Two D-colour gems weighing 29.2 ct and 11.1 ct were also discovered among other large special diamonds from Mining Block 6.

“We are certainly excited by what we are seeing at Mining Block 6 where our management exploration target is to prove up sufficient gravels to incrementally add up to 12 months of alluvial diamond production,” said CEO Stephen Wetherall.

“The fact the 133.4 ct stone is a compound diamond, which is unlikely to have travelled very far from its primary source, adds to its relative downstream proximity to Mining Block 6 and our high priority kimberlite targets, which we believe is very significant.”
