LET IT FLOW THROUGH

Strong calls were made on Wednesday for South Africa to fall into line with Canada and Australia by introducing effective incentives for its junior miners as a way of spurring mineral exploration. Bakgatla-Ba-Kgafela Investment Holdings CEO Noah Greenhill urged that a collective go to the Treasury to present the opportunity as a way of encouraging much-needed similar investment in South Africa. Another strong proponent, KPMG corporate tax head Muhammad Saloojee, said that the Canadian model attracts equity finance by allowing investors to benefit from the tax deduction for the prospector. ENS Africa director Otsile Matlou urged South Africa to do more to incentivise exploration. All were speaking at the Junior Indaba, in Johannesburg.
