PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Metals miner MMG has reported a fatality at its Las Bambas copper operation, in Peru.

A contract worker was fatally injured on Tuesday by an uncontrolled release of pressurised water while working in the tailings thickener area of the concentrator plant.

Two other workers were also injured, but remain in a stable condition, the company said.

“This tragedy is a reminder of why we hold safety as our first value and highest operating priority. Workplace accidents are not acceptable and this is a tragic reminder that we can never be too careful,” said MMG CEO Andrew Michelmore.

The company has launched an investigation into the incident.
