Konecranes, a world-leading manufacturer of cranes and hoists established in 48 countries, provides productivity-enhancing lifting solutions as well as servicing for cranes and hoists of all makes.

Established in Finland in 1933, it supplies a wide range of cranes and hoists to manufacturing and process industries, shipyards, ports and terminals, as well as provides service, maintenance and load testing, and supplies spare parts for all makes of cranes and hoists.

Konecranes opened up in South Africa in 2010 and is headquartered in Alrode, Johannesburg, with branches in Durban, Cape Town, Port Elizabeth, Witbank and Klerksdorp. It is located on a total site area of 12 000 m² and has an under cover area of 3600 m2.

The company, which is listed on the Helsinki Stock Exchange, has a yearly turnover of €2.1-billion and an order book valued at R51-million. Its main equipment includes cranes, hoists and lifting equipment and the company provides service, inspection and load testing of all makes of cranes and hoists.

Konecranes South Africa, which employs 131 people, is in the process of implementing ISO 14001 and in acquiring the ISO 9001 and 18001 accreditation.

Over the last 18 months, Konecranes’ inspection, service and load testing contracts base has increased by 215% and it won several contracts, including tyre manufacturer Good Year, in Port Elizabeth; mining giant BHP Billiton, in Mpumalanga; parastatal Transnet, in the City of Johannesburg; steel manufacturer Safal Steel, in KwaZulu-Natal; mining giant AngloGold Ashanti, in KwaZulu-Natal; shipmaker Damen Shipbuilders, in Cape Town; construction company WK Construction, in Port Elizabeth; materials handling company Paterson Simons, in Ghana; gold miner B2 Gold, in Namibia; steelmaker Steel Rode, in Johannesburg; energy services provider Hunting Energy, in Cape Town; and quarry mine Alaturca, in Angola.

The group has 12 100 employees at 626 locations.
