The Kittilä mine is the largest gold mine in Europe.

The expansion includes the construction of a 1 044-m-deep shaft at the mine and increasing the capacity of the mine’s processing plant from 1.6-million tonnes a year to two-million tonnes a year.

The project will be phased in over a four-year period and is expected to result in a 50 000 oz/y to 70 000 oz/y increase in gold production at reduced operating costs.
