PERTH (miningweekly.com) – ASX-listed Kingsgate Consolidated has confirmed the closure of its Chatree gold mine, in Thailand.

Production at the mine ceased on December 31, in compliance with the requirements of the Thailand government, and the company is now proceeding with rehabilitation of the site.

Kingsgate stated last week that a meeting proposed by the Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand did not proceed, adding that the company had written to the Prime Minister seeking a meeting in early January.

In the meantime, Kingsgate said it would continue to pursue "remedies" for the premature closure of the Chatree gold mine.

The miner has previously said that in order to resume operations at Chatree, a significant amount of time and capital expenditure would be required, as well as the granting of additional licences and approvals.
