JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – The world's second-largest platinum company, Impala Platinum, on Wednesday reaffirmed the election of Dr Khotso Mokhele as chairperson of the board of directors, "with immediate effect". Implats said that former nonexecutive director Mokhele would replace Michael McMahon, who had been acting chairperson.
McMahon had to step into the breach after an altercation between the board and previous chairperson Dr Fred Roux.
Roux resigned as an independent nonexecutive director, also "with immediate effect", after both he and Implats said in a statement that they regretted the circumstances and publicity surrounding Roux's dismissal on October 22.
Implats said that Roux would be paid a gratuity of R1,6-million for past service and would not be restricted by any restraint of trade.
