Industry 4.0 enables surge in automated firefighting solutions

PRODUCT OFFERING FireDos offers its early fire detection systems for use in waste recycling and in a broader industrial fire detection and firefighting environment

In light of the emergence of Industry 4.0, automation and technology have become more prevalent in the fire prevention and protection industry, prompting an increase in demand for automated firefighting solutions and early detection systems.

As a result, German fire-suppression systems developer FireDos offers its early fire detection systems for use in waste recycling and in a broader industrial fire detection and firefighting environment, such as for aircraft hangars and fuel storage depots.

As a local supplier of FireDos products, fire protection equipment supplier DoseTech Fire MD Mike Feldon says that early fire detection systems allow for full-surface area monitoring of large areas using panoramic, three-dimensional thermal imaging.

He explains that, combined with intelligent analysing software, this enables the precise localisation of a fire source to be pinpointed.

“Remote-controlled FireDos monitors are used for instantaneous, pinpointed extinguishing of fires using water or foam and water premix solutions, which have a faster response time and help avoid lengthy and costly system downtime and minimises collateral damage.”

FireDos monitors use foam and water premix solution or water to fight fires by delivering thousands of litres each minute, from 2 000 ℓ/min to 60 000 ℓ/min, covering up to 150 m. The oval flat design also ensures minimum pressure loss while enabling maximum throw and reach for the monitors.

When coupled with automated fire detection, remote-controlled monitors also allow for a flexible firefighting operation, as well as for effective fire protection, reducing the need to risk firefighting personnel’s safety.

Moreover, Feldon explains that FireDos Smart Monitoring solutions allow users to monitor the state of the installed FireDos foam proportioners at all times. This enables real-time visualisation, which provides a proportioning rate and operating parameters at a glance, while remotely monitoring operating parameters and device settings.

Meanwhile, end-users face fewer maintenance costs, owing to early troubleshooting, allowing for the monitoring of parameter development, remote monitoring assistance, fewer on site service requirements and a reduction in downtime.

With the emerging Industry 4.0, DoseTech Fire aims to better equip fire safety departments with more accurate and affordable mobile foam systems to better fight fires in a modern world.

“Research and development is, therefore, vital in the fire prevention and protection industry. FireDos and DoseTech Fire are already completely capable to handle all the industry changes towards moving into the next generation of Fluorine Free foam concentrates with proportioning capabilities and aspiration of the foam premix requirements, DoseTech will encourage the adoption of this technology in the South African market,” Feldon concludes.
