INDONESIAN INTERVENTION

The Indonesian government has imposed a ban on the export of unprocessed nickel as part of an initiative to add value domestically. Failure to comply with the ban could result in producer companies losing their licences to mine. Shown is the kind of local value addition that the Indonesian government wants. Being smelted, at PT Vale, is nickel ore from a lateritic nickel mine in Sorowako, on the Indonesian island of Sulawesi.
