Metals miner Hudbay Minerals on Wednesday appointed Peter Kukielski as its new president and CEO.

Kukielski had been serving as interim president and CEO since July last year, after Alan Hair resigned following a proxy battle between Hudbay and shareholder Waterton.

“The board completed a thoughtful and robust process and we believe Peter’s 30-plus years of mining industry leadership, together with his admirable performance while serving in the CEO role on an interim basis, make him the right choice to lead Hudbay,” said board chairperson Stephen Lang.

Kukielski was the president and CEO of Nevsun Resources until its acquisition in December 2018.
