PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Copper miner Hillgrove Resources has taken over an option agreement from CN Resources over the Kitticoola mine, about 35 km from its Kanmantoo operation, in South Australia.

The option agreement provided Hillgrove with the exploration rights and any potential future mining rights over the Kitticoola prospect, subject to certain conditions.

Hillgrove said it would carry out initial exploration work over the next year to determine the possible extent and depth of the mineralisation at Kitticoola.

The mine was operated at various times between 1846 and 1971, and has produced about 30 000 t of gold ore and 7 000 t of copper ore.

In 2007, Hillgrove undertook reconnaissance work and due diligence on the project area, which confirmed mineralisation at the site.
