Hencon Vacuum Technologies

Gauteng-based Hencon Vacuum Technologies, a specialist company in the Hencon Group, is one of the leading companies in the design, manufacture, supply and support of heavy- duty industrial vacuum systems for the cleaning of spillages, especially around and under conveyors or other hard-to-reach areas. These systems are also used in the recovery of high-value materials in gold, platinum and diamond mines.

The company also designs and manufactures solutions for mechanised suction handling by means of remote-controlled vehicles and robots.

From its offices at 1 510 Zeiss road, Honeydew, Hencon Vacuum Technologies’ engineering department designs and engineers its products using the Solidworks three-dimensional computer- aided design system. The designs are converted to drawings and the various parts procured. Major metal parts are mostly laser cut and these are assembled and welded at the company’s factory. While this is taking place, the control panels are being manufactured and tested. Once the units have been fabricated, preparation and painting take place, which is followed by final assembly. Once assembled, the units are tested and then delivered to the client for installation and commissioning as needed.

Hencon Vacuum Technologies is also establishing an industrial services division that will supply and operate equipment for customers. This has evolved from the move by mines and processing plants to focus on their core business and outsource related services. Mines are also increasingly moving away from buying capital equipment.

The company has been awarded several large orders in recent months, including a contract from De Beers Marine, in Namibia, for three vacuum units for a new marine vessel. Hencon Vacuum Technologies is also supplying central vacuum systems for the Northam smelter expansion project, in South Africa, a diamond plant in Lesotho, and a gold smelting plant in Mexico. The company will further supply a dual vacuum system for the conveying of cutter material out of tunnels at the Cullinan mine, in South Africa.

Established in 2006, the South Africa-based company employs 15 people.
