Canada-based midtier gold miner Guyana Goldfields reported on Wednesday that its Aurora gold mine, in Guyana, had not suffered any damage in the powerful quake that struck off the eastern coast of neighbouring Venezuela.

The 7.3 magnitude earthquake struck at about 17:30 on Tuesday. Reports indicate that the tremor was felt as far away as the capital, Caraca, and also felt severely in the north-west of Guyana, which is relatively close to the epicentre of the quake.

TSX-listed Guyana Goldfields said that normal operations continued throughout the day and night at the Aurora mine.
