The output of the mine has been revised downwards from the 2.7-million tonnes initially reported by Exxaro. Exxaro’s head of coal, Nombasa Tsengwa, has said that, as a result, Grootegeluk 6 will deliver a higher-priced product, and the other one-million tonnes of production has been deferred to phases 7 and 8 of the mine’s development.
