PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Magnetite miner Grange Resources has delivered a record quarter during the three months to September, with the miner producing 627 277 t of pellets, up 2% on the June quarter and 40% on the previous corresponding quarter.

“A continued focus on maintaining access to high-grade ore, progressing mine development and maximising processing rates has allowed the business to successfully navigate through the volatile market conditions,” said Grange chairperson and interim executive director Michelle Li.

Operations at the Savage River mine, in Tasmania, focused on the North Pit main orezone during the quarter, as well as prestripping of the South deposit. The South deposit would start delivering ore in the fourth quarter of this year, providing an alternative to the North Pit as a single source of high-grade ore in the near term.

Meanwhile, pellet sales during the September quarter reached 836 285 t, with some 42 t of iron-ore concentrate sold during the year. A further 34 372 t of iron-ore chips were also sold.

“The business is strategically well positioned to capitalise on any recovery in the iron-ore market. The team continues to pursue sales opportunities in new markets and remains committed to optimising production while maintaining day-to-day focus on the business basics,” Li added.
