GOODIES GONE

GOODIES GONE

South Africa’s platinum strikers, like blindfolded children at a piñata party, are ‘striking’ the already-assailed platinum business harder and harder, over and over again, in the hope that ‘toys, candy and fruit’ will fall generously from the decorated overhead figure. Union leadership is blind to the reality that the platinum sector has already had the stuffing knocked out of it and has little more to offer at this stage, unless union leaders are prepared to guarantee concomitant productivity surges. As Mining Weekly cartoonist Darlene indicates, the goodies are all gone and the labour unrest is completely mistimed.
