TORONTO (miningweekly.com) – Global gold producer Goldcorp on Tuesday suspended mining operations at its El Sauzal mine, in Chihuahua, Mexico, for safety reasons after the operation experienced movement in the highwall slope of the Trini pit.

As a safety precaution, mining operations were suspended until a geotechnical survey team could assess the potential impact of the instability on the mine's operation.

Goldcorp said 2014 represented the last year of El Sauzal's active mine life, with the company expecting to extract 100 000 oz to 105 000 oz of gold. As of August 28, it had produced about 37 000 oz of gold.
