JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Gold miner Goldcorp has suspended operations at its Musselwhite mine, in northern Ontario, after a scoop operator died in a fall-of-ground accident on Wednesday.

The company stated on Friday that operations were suspended to allow for a review and reinforcement of safety procedures.

"The health and safety of our employees is our highest priority at Goldcorp. We are fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation to determine the cause of the accident, and are offering support to the individual's family and employees at the mine site," president and CEO Chuck Jeannes stated.
