Cynthia Macingwane is seen at DRDGold’s Ergo retreatment plant, where dumped mine waste is turned into gold that adds R14-billion worth of value a year to the South African economy. With the gold price hitting the high spots in rands and rising in dollars, the debt-free DRDGold has seen its market capitalisation soar from R700-million in October last year to R4.9-billion earlier this year. The JSE- and NYSE-listed DRDGold is targeting 145 000 oz to 150 000 oz of gold a year by putting two-million tonnes of surface material through the plant every month.
