PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Junior Gibb River Diamonds has unveiled plans to restart mining at the Ellendale diamond project, in Western Australia, after gaining back full ownership earlier this year.

ASX-listed Burgundy Diamonds earlier this year abandoned plans to acquire Ellendale under a two-year option agreement, focusing instead on the acquisition of the Ekati diamond mine, in Canada’s Northwest Territories.

Gibb told shareholders on Tuesday that the company had selected four main target areas which it considered to be the best opportunities to re-establish production at Ellendale, and had now started various studies, including resource studies, with a view to acquiring permitting to restart mining operations.

Diamond valuation studies have also been commissioned to obtain valuation on the diamonds previously produced from these areas.
