This Suncor processing plant on the Athabasca river, 90 km north of Fort McMurray, in Alberta, Canada, upgrades oil sands to refinery-ready crude oil and diesel fuel. After helping to pioneer the commercial development of oil sands in 1967, Suncor developed into an integrated energy company that is currently targeting the production of one-million barrels of oil equivalent a day. The energy company also has the capacity to generate 255 MW of wind power and a biofuels plant able to produce 400-million litres of ethanol a day.
