PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Mineral sands miner Lynas has reported its fourth consecutive quarter of increased production and sales volumes.

During the three months to June, Lynas increased its rare earth oxide (REO) production to 1 822 t, compared with the 1 089 t produced in the previous quarter. Production for the 12 months to June reached 3 965 t, while shipments during the year totalled 3 008 t.

The June quarter production represented 47.5% of the full-year production, while the quarter’s shipment volumes represented 54.2% of the total full-year shipments.

Lynas noted that the ramp-up of production at the company’s Advanced Materials Plant, in Malaysia, was continued during the quarter. Each of the major stages of the Phase 1 plant had been individually operated at target capacity during the June quarter.

The Phase 2 cracking and leaching and product finishing assets have been successfully commissioned, and it was intended to begin commissioning the Phase 2 solvent extraction asset in the coming months.

At the Western Australian operations, the concentration plant performed in line with expectations during the quarter, with some 10 828 dry tonnes of concentrate, containing 4 144 t of REO, bagged and ready for export.

Concentrate stocks reduced by 26% during the quarter, compared with the end of March.
