PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Project house Sedgman has landed a A$64-million contract for the design and construction of a 7.5-million-tonne-a-year modular iron-ore processing plant for major Fortescue Metals at its Solomon Hub, in Western Australia.

The modular plant formed part of Fortescue's vision for the Solomon mine, to operate without the need for a new wet plant at the Firetail ore processing facility.

The plant would be delivered by a project-specific joint venture between Sedgman and Thiess.

The Solomon Hub includes the Firetail and Kings mines, and contains more than three-billion tonnes of resource. The hub has two ore processing facilities, three crushing hubs, a 125 MW power station and three camps housing 3 000 people.
