Europe-focused explorer Erris Resources has appointed investment banker Anton du Plessis as CEO, succeeding Merlin Marr-Johnson, who on Thursday resigned as director and elected to step down.

Erris, which has a portfolio of zinc and base metals projects in Ireland and gold projects in Sweden, said that Marr-Johnson would pursue other business interests.

New CEO Du Plessis has more than 20 years' experience in the finance sector.  During this time, he has held senior positions at several international investment banks including CIBC, Bank of America Merrill Lynch and Morgan Stanley. He has worked on transactions across a range of commodities and for a number of leading global players including AngloGold Ashanti, Rio Tinto and BHP Billiton.

Prior to embarking on his investment banking career, Du Plessis worked for the Anglo American group in a corporate finance and business development capacity.

Erris executive chairperson Jeremy Martin said Du Plessis’s specialist knowledge and wealth of international industry contracts would be of particular value to the company, as it moved to develop its asset portfolio and scout for high-value opportunities.
